BIW, short for Book-in-a-Week, used to be on a Listserv started by Carmel Thomaston in 1998. In the summer of 2002 I joined the writing group and became a list moderator and eventually in 2006 the owner. Near the end of 2008, we lost ten years worth of messages thanks to a company I affectionately call yaPoo.

I had developed an official website years earlier which we used to keep members informed and as a landing page for people new to the system. It was a natural progression to create a community at the same location where members could interact with one another and share their goals. The website is now a combination of WordPress blog and Moodle database.

I am very proud to say that Writer’s Digest included the Book-in-a-Week website in their yearly listing for 101 Best Websites for Writers for three years in a row (2006, 2007 and 2008).
